It can’t be denied that Harry Kane is on fire and has had a wonderful run of form in 2017. The question that arises now is- is he as prolific a goal scorer as Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?
The Tottenham main man scored a brace in Tottenham’s convincing 4-0 win against Huddersfield on Saturday, and that came right after his midweek hat-trick against APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League.
His club football tally has now been increased to 36 goals 31 goals across all competitions this year. Kane stands unchallenged as the top scorer of the English Premier League. He’s scored 18 more than teammate Dele Alli, 12 more than Manchester City ace Sergio Aguero, and nine more than second-placed Romelu Lukaku. To further buttress his goal-scoring prowess, it should be mentioned that Kane has scored more goals than Southampton, West Brom, Burnley, Walford, Crystal Palace, Swansea, and Stoke, all seven of which are current Premier League teams.
Kane has been notably consistent all year long, but his tally has also been padded by his large number of hat tricks. Kane’s hat-trick against APOEL was his seventh of the year.
Hat-trick King Of England
No other Premier League striker has scored a hat-trick more than once this year. He has not just outperformed Premier League players in the hat-trick department; he has more hat-tricks than FC Barcelona main man Lionel Messi and goal-hungry Cristiano Ronaldo, who have two each. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the only person in Europe’s top 5 leagues- bar Kane- to score more than two hat-tricks in 2017.
Kane is however beaten by Messi with regards to total goals scored, as Messi has scored 45 goals- nine more than Kane’s 36. It should be noted that the Argentine has made 12 more appearances than Kane this year. Kane might very well be on his way to becoming the best goal scorer of 2017, as he has the highest goals per game ratio- 1.16.
