One Direction member and star Louis Tomlinson was arrested for reportedly attacking a paparazzo at an airport in Los Angeles as he collected his luggage.
The singer, 25 years old, was returning from Las Vegas after a weeklong holiday with Eleanor Calder, his partner and fashion blogger, when paparazzi caught sight of the couple.
The violent incident, which had happened while the pair were in Los Angeles Friday night, saw Tomlinson taken to a police department station Saturday morning.
It was reported city-wide that the photographer was snapping photos of the couple when Tomlinson allegedly knocked him down onto the ground, leaving the man with injuries to the head and back.
Sources say that the photographer then initiated a citizen’s arrest, a legal practice in the United States, on the singer.
Calder too was thought to have gotten into arguments with those who were looking on the incident, and began filming footage of the entire ordeal.
Response to the Incident
Tomlinson’s lawyer, Martin Singer, released a statement in behalf of the singer, saying, “The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis. It’s not the first time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity.
“While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during this incident and he came to her defence.”
According to the many reported circulating after the incident, the altercation had happened after Tomlinson had asked a photographer present to stop filming the couple, which he then refused to do, angering the singer and provoking the alleged attack.
Tomlinson previously lost his mom, Johannah Deakin, in her fight against leukaemia last December only days before the singer preformed a live show at the finale of The X Factor.
He preformed his song Just Hold On to fans as a tribute in honor of her.
