Sir Elton John has said that finally he and his mother have reconciled and re-established their relationship after since had been at odds for nearly nine years.
Sir Elton said that he and his mother Sheila Farebrother were “back in touch” after the time he had spent in intensive care with a bacterial infection he got in South America.
The mothers revealed that the reason why she and her son were at odds and have it spoken since 2008 goes back to the argument they had over the her refusal of ditching two men with whom she is friends.
Nonetheless, the world was taken by surprise after Sir Elton had posted a picture taken in July 2002; the picture posted on Sunday was of him with his mother with a caption that reads: “Dear Mum, Happy Mother’s Day! So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton xo.”
The singer revealed he had become “violently ill” whilst being on a flight to Britain from Santiago, Chile, where he had a performance on April 10.
Sir Elton’s controversy with his mother dates back June 2008 after he had asked her to cut contacts with two men with whom she was friends but the mother believed that she was “not a person to be controlled or told what [she has] got to do.” The two men were Bob Halley and John Reid whom Sir Elton disliked.
“I told him: ‘I’m not about to do that and drop them. Bob is like a son to me. He has always been marvelous to me and he lives nearby and keeps an eye on me’,” Ms Farebrother said.
“Then to my utter amazement, he told me he hated me. And he then banged the phone down. Imagine! To me, his mother!”
On one hand, Mr Halley had worked for Sir Elton for thirty years, first as a driver then later as a personal assistant, then Sir Elton dismissed him when he made changes in his team.
On the other hand, Mr Reid was had been Sir Elton’s manager and lover.
