The president of Barcelona Josep Maria Bartomeu has called into question the character of Neymar who decided to leave the club for PSG this summer.
Bartomeu revealed that the management suspected that the Brazilian wanted to move on even though he signed a new contract last year.
Neymar signed for PSG for 222 million Euros which is a record fee after months of speculation.
His Character Was Off
The president said; “The way he acted was certainly not the best and not the kind of behaviour that we want from a player of Barcelona.”
“We suspected that he wanted to leave and this is the reason why we increased the buyout clause in his contract so we won’t lose out.”
“When he got news that he wanted to leave, we didn’t panic because we knew our interest will be protected.”
“If he decides to remain at the club, we will have a great player and if he leaves we will get his whole buyout clause paid in full. This gives us the chance to sign new players that will keep us competitive.”
“Neymar has been a part of the club’s success in the last four years but all that is in the past now.”
“He made his decision because we did all we could to make him stay”
He also revealed that Barcelona has already sent details of the transfer to UEFA because they feel the need to protect football from irregularities.
